Medievalists in the Archives: Archiving and Researching the Papers of Medievalists
The call for papers to participate in the session “Medievalists in the Archives” in Kalamazoo next spring is open through September 15. The session will convene those working with the papers of medievalists, as archivists or researchers, to explore the historiography of medieval studies and the scholarly potential – and surprises – of medievalists’ collections.

Description
Scholarship is an ongoing conversation among scholars and primary sources. The papers of earlier scholars may become primary sources, allowing the further exploration of research topics and historiographical investigation of medieval studies itself. This panel will focus on the research collections of medievalists that have been deposited in archives and libraries. Such collections offer insights into medievalists, their scholarship, and also the communications among scholars that spread ideas and affect research trajectories. We welcome papers from archives and libraries holding such collections, medieval studies programs that foster scholarly networks, and researchers who have explored the papers of earlier scholars.
Proposals for papers are due via the Confex tool on September 15, 2026.
This session will be onsite in Kalamazoo.
